Background

Nyssa Mental Health services is a non-governmental organization based in the South West region of Cameroon with the aim of promoting quality access to psychological therapy on mental health, promoting the standard of psychological health management and also to promote the training of mental health professionals.

Objective

To recruit and capacitate 4 special education teachers for the implementation of Bridging the education gap for children with learning disabilities in SWR Cameroon (Buea).

Duties and Responsibilities

- Assess child’s ability and develop individualized intervention plans to help the child/ren improve daily living skills.

- Adapt learning materials and provide educative activities to improve on reasoning abilities.

- Provide activity-based reports and monthly reports as per the guidelines to the coordinator.

- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care for child.

- Keep track of and reflect on child’s progress

- Monitor child/ren behavioral pattern and arrange appropriate interventions if needed

- Perform any other duty as require.

Recruitment criteria or Requirements

The special education teacher will be selected based on the following criteria;

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in related field

- Proven experience working with children of all ages and diverse backgrounds

- Good knowledge of current special education topics and methodology

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Key skills

1. Skills in planning, monitoring and documenting key activities as per the individualized intervention plan

2. Skills in promoting mental health by communicating effectively with individuals, families.
